Why We Made This:
- Classical conditioning is one of the most fundamental concepts in psychology, but it’s also one of the most misunderstood. Individuals often confuse the roles of stimuli and responses or struggle to apply concepts like extinction and generalization to real life. We created these charts to clearly and visually explain classical conditioning, making it easy to understand, remember, and apply in practical settings.
Learning Objectives:
- Differentiate between unconditioned stimulus (US), unconditioned response (UR), conditioned stimulus (CS), and conditioned response (CR).
- Explain key phenomena like extinction, spontaneous recovery, and stimulus generalization.
- Recognize and describe Pavlov’s foundational experiment and how it illustrates the principles of learning.
- Identify and apply examples of classical conditioning in everyday life, such as phobias, advertising, and habit formation.
