Why We Made This:
- We created this visual guide to help individuals understand and retain critical developmental milestones and genetic concepts. Many of us can struggle to connect physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and language milestones with the underlying genetics that influence development and disorders. This guide brings clarity through simple explanations, engaging visuals, and real-world examples.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify key physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and language milestones from birth to 24 months.
- Understand how dominant and recessive genes influence inherited traits.
- Explain the three types of genotype-environment correlations: passive, evocative, and active.
- Recognize examples of how genes and environments interact to shape development.
- Distinguish between autosomal, X-linked, and chromosomal genetic disorders.
- Describe why males and females assigned at birth are affected differently by X-linked disorders.
- Identify common genetic disorders such as Down syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, and Huntington’s disease.
