Why We Made This:

  • We created this visual guide to clarify the foundational concepts of behavioral psychology and make them easier to understand and apply. Many learners struggle to distinguish between reinforcement and punishment, schedules of reinforcement, and behavioral modification techniques. This guide presents everything visually, along with real-life examples, so you can quickly master operant conditioning for the EPPP.

Learning Objectives:

  • Differentiate between positive/negative reinforcement and positive/negative punishment.
  • Understand and identify examples of fixed and variable ratio and interval schedules of reinforcement.
  • Apply the Premack Principle, stimulus control, and discriminative stimuli to behavior.
  • Recognize techniques like shaping, chaining, fading, and thinning for behavior modification.
  • Explain the difference between escape conditioning and avoidance conditioning, with examples.
  • See how operant conditioning compares to classical conditioning.
  •  Use practical examples (e.g., studying, training animals, managing classrooms) to illustrate each concept.
