Why We Made This:
- Hiring the right people is one of the most critical decisions an organization can make—but the science behind the process is often buried in textbooks and jargon-heavy lectures. We created this visual guide to help individuals studying for the EPPP clearly understand how evidence-based hiring works, from job analysis to predictors, assessments, training methods, and fairness in the hiring process. As such, this guide provides a visually structured overview of each step in the hiring process, combining real-world examples with practical learning aids.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain key steps in the hiring process, including job analysis, job evaluation, pre-employment testing, and employee selection.
- Understand various assessment methods, such as cognitive tests, personality inventories, work samples, and structured interviews.
- Differentiate predictor types (e.g., compensatory vs. non-compensatory) and their use in combining candidate scores.
- Apply concepts of fairness, including adverse impact, differential validity, and the Four-Fifths Rule.
- Evaluate training methods like vestibule training, job rotation, and experiential exercises.
- Recognize how predictors are used to forecast job performance, and how companies reduce bias and promote equal opportunity in selection.
